Trumpety Trump Trump, Donald Trump takes a nap in court as he battles for justice once again

Falling Asleep During Trial: During a hush money trial, Donald Trump appeared to fall asleep in the courtroom.

He later “jolted back awake” after noticing notes passed to him by his lawyer. The trial is significant as it marks the first-ever criminal trial of a former or current US president. It revolves around alleged hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of fraud related to an alleged cover-up of that payment in his accounts.

Calling the Case a ‘Scam’: Trump has referred to the hush money case as a “scam.” The trial began with jury selection, and he faces accusations of criminally altering business records to conceal the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels.

Maggie Haberman’s Account: New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman detailed a moment during the trial when Trump gave her a “pretty specific stare.” She also discussed aspects that might make the former president “deeply uncomfortable” during the proceedings.

Gender Care UK, Proposals, Services and Waiting Times at Gender Clinics and Youth Services

A recent review of the NHS’s gender services for children, conducted by consultant paediatrician Hilary Cass, proposes a dramatic shift in the type of treatment offered to children and young people with gender dysphoria. Here are the key findings:

Holistic Assessment: Instead of primarily focusing on medical treatment, young people referred to NHS gender services should now “receive a holistic assessment of their needs to inform an individualized care plan.” This means that questions of gender identity should be considered alongside other possible mental health concerns. The review emphasizes the importance of addressing wider mental health and psychosocial challenges, including screening for neurodevelopmental conditions like autism spectrum disorder1.

Beyond Medical Pathways: The report suggests that a medical pathway (such as puberty blockers) may not always be the best option for children with gender dysphoria. It should not be provided “without also addressing wider mental health and/or psychosocially challenging problems.” This approach aims to consider the overall well-being of the individual1.

Positive Reception: Medical experts, including Dr. Lade Smith (President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists), have welcomed the idea of holistic assessments. Dr. Smith emphasizes that children questioning their gender often experience mental illness, and timely access to services that respond to individual needs is crucial.

However, implementing these changes will have significant implications for wider children’s mental health services, which are already overstretched. The waiting lists for gender-affirming care on the NHS are alarmingly long. As of August 2022, approximately 26,234 adults and 7,600 children were waiting for their first appointment with gender dysphoria clinics, with many waiting more than 18 weeks. Urgent improvements are needed to address this backlog and provide timely support for those seeking gender-affirming care.

For more details, you can refer to the full report by Hilary Cass. The NHS is also planning a review into adult gender services to further guide and shape gender-affirming care in England.

As of April 2024, the waiting times for gender-affirming care in the UK can be quite lengthy due to high demand. Here’s an overview of the waiting times for various gender services:

Belfast: Approximately 75 months to be seen.
Belfast KOI: Around 24 months.
Cardiff: Waiting time is approximately 15 months for the first appointment, and less than 12 months to get hormones.
Edinburgh: Approximately 23 months.
Exeter: Awaiting time is 88 months for the first appointment and 12 months to receive hormones.
Glasgow: About 65 months.
Glasgow Youth: Waiting time is approximately 58 months.
Grampian: Around 24 months for the first appointment and 12 months for hormones.
Inverness: Approximately 29 months1.
Leeds: Waiting time is approximately 58 months, with a 10-month wait for hormones.
London Gender Identity Clinic (GIC): Approximately 61 months for the first appointment and 10 months for hormones.
London Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS): Not currently accepting new patients1.
London TransPlus: Details not specified.
Newcastle: Not currently accepting new patients.
Northants: Approximately 53 months for the first appointment and 9 months for hormones1.
Nottingham: Waiting time is approximately 27 months for the first appointment and 11 months for hormones.
Sheffield: Approximately 65 months for the first appointment and 16 months for hormones1.
The Northern Hub: Opening in 2024.
The Southern Hub: Also opening in 2024.

For youth services, the wait times as of October 2023 are as follows:

England & Wales: Up to 5 years for the first appointments, with a queue length of 7902+.
Scotland: Approximately 4.5 years.
Northern Ireland: Around 2 years, with a queue length of 451.

It’s important to note that these waiting times are subject to change, and demand continues to increase over time. While waiting, consider seeking mental health support, and explore free UK-based services through your GP referral.

The Toll on Mothers and Children in Gaza since October 2023

Since the Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, the impact on civilians in Gaza has been devastating. Here are some figures that highlight the immense toll on women and children:

Pregnant and Breastfeeding Women: Approximately 155,000 women in Gaza are pregnant or breastfeeding, with around 5,500 expected to deliver in the next month.

These numbers represent the immense human cost of the conflict, and the suffering endured by women and children in Gaza is heartbreaking.

The situation remains dire, and urgent action is needed to alleviate the suffering of innocent civilians.

Oil Prices Surge Amid Tensions: Iran’s Attack on Israel Sparks Concerns Around the UK Economy

As we start the week, oil prices are expected to rise due to recent events in the Middle East. Here’s what happened:

  • Iran’s Move: Iran launched over 300 drones and missiles at Israel from its own territory.  The Israeli Defense Forces managed to repel most of them with help from the U.S., France, Jordan, and the United Kingdom. Only a few missiles and drones caused minor damage at the Nevatim Airbase in Israel.

  • First-Ever Strikes: Surprisingly, this is the first time Iran has directly attacked Israel, despite decades of tension between the two countries. Just weeks ago, Iran blamed Israel for an attack on its consulate in Syria, which resulted in the death of a top commander from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ overseas Quds Force.

  • Oil Prices React: Worries about further conflict led to a surge in oil prices. The global benchmark Brent crude oil reached $92.18 a barrel on Friday, the highest since October. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures also rose, settling at $85.66 a barrel.

As tensions remain high, the world watches closely. The impact on oil prices could have broader implications.

Politica, a new feminist news room for an egalitarian future for all genders.

A Feminist News Network holds immense potential for positive impact. Let’s explore some of the remarkable aspects:

  1. Visibility and Representation: A feminist news network would prioritize stories that often go unnoticed in mainstream media. It would amplify the voices of women, non-binary individuals, and marginalized communities. By providing a platform for their stories, it ensures greater visibility and representation.

  2. Challenging Stereotypes: Such a network would actively challenge gender stereotypes and biases. It could dismantle harmful narratives by presenting diverse perspectives and showcasing achievements, struggles, and resilience across genders.

  3. Informed Advocacy: A feminist news network would educate its audience about critical issues such as reproductive rights, gender-based violence, pay equity, and intersectionality. Informed viewers can become advocates for change.

  4. Community Building: By fostering a sense of community, the network would connect people who share feminist values. It could facilitate discussions, organize events, and create a supportive space for dialogue and collaboration.

  5. Highlighting Unsung Heroes: Celebrating the achievements of women in various fields—science, arts, politics, and more—would inspire others. The network could spotlight unsung heroes, trailblazers, and change-makers.

  6. Global Solidarity: A feminist news network would bridge geographical gaps. It could showcase global movements, connect activists, and promote solidarity across borders. Shared experiences and collective action would drive change.

  7. Intersectional Lens: Recognizing that feminism intersects with race, sexuality, disability, and class, the network would explore these intersections. It would foster understanding and empathy, promoting a more inclusive feminism.

  8. Empowering Youth: By engaging young viewers, the network could shape future leaders. It would empower them with knowledge, critical thinking skills, and a commitment to equality.

In essence, a feminist news network would be a beacon of progress, challenging norms, celebrating achievements, and advocating for a more just and equitable world.

Sydney Stabbing Tragedy Claims Lives: Heroic Police Woman Acts amid Heartbreaking Losses

In a heartbreaking incident at a Sydney shopping center, five lives were tragically lost during a stabbing spree that left six people dead and several others hospitalized.

Among the victims was Ashlee Good, a first-time mother who displayed immense courage while shielding her nine-month-old baby from harm. Tragically, both Ashlee and her little one were injured during the horrifying attack. Friends and family remember Ashlee as an exceptional human being, whose selflessness in the face of danger will forever be honored.

Faraz Tahir, a security guard at Westfield Bondi Junction, also lost his life while protecting others. His bravery has been widely praised by those who witnessed his heroic actions. Additionally, Dawn Singleton, a 25-year-old employee at a clothing boutique, was among the victims.

The tragedy also claimed the lives of Jade Young, a 47-year-old architect, and Pikria Darchia, a 55-year-old artist. The identity of the sixth victim remains unconfirmed.

Authorities have identified the attacker as Joel Cauchi from Queensland. His family has described his actions as “truly horrific.” Disturbingly, it has come to light that Cauchi had attempted to join gun groups and made an unusual request to have his knives sharpened. Shockingly, he had also advertised himself online as a male escort.

Shoppers at the center were left terrified as Cauchi randomly attacked members of the public on a Saturday afternoon. Thankfully, a heroic lone police officer intervened and shot Cauchi dead, preventing further harm.

Inspector Amy Scott, the heroic police officer, played a pivotal role in stopping the attacker during the tragic stabbing spree at the Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center in Sydney. Here are the remarkable details of her actions.

Confronting the Attacker: As the knife-wielding assailant, Joel Cauchi, roamed through the shopping center, Inspector Scottsingle-handedly confronted him. Despite the danger, she fearlessly pursued him.

Face-to-Face Encounter: On the fifth floor of the complex, Inspector Scott came face-to-face with Cauchi. He lunged at her with the blade, and in that critical moment, she acted swiftly.

Heroic Shot: Displaying immense courage, Amy Scott shot and killed the attacker, effectively ending his deadly rampage. Her decisive action prevented further harm to innocent lives.

Life-Saving Efforts: Even after neutralizing the threat, Inspector Scott didn’t hesitate. She immediately began performing CPR on the 40-year-old assailant until paramedics arrived. Unfortunately, he could not be revived.

Professionalism and Bravery: Amy Scott was praised for her heroic actions and bravery. She ran toward danger, demonstrating unwavering professionalism. Her selflessness saved many lives during those critical hours.

Prime Minister’s Tribute: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese acknowledged her as a hero, emphasizing how she removed the threat without considering the risks to herself. Her courage and quick thinking made a profound impact.

Humble Nature: Despite her extraordinary actions, Inspector Scott remained humble. NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley described her as instinctive and appreciative of the bystanders who assisted.

Unwavering Dedication: Amy Scott’s dedication to duty and her incredible act of heroism will forever be remembered. She exemplified the best qualities of a police officer, putting the safety of others above all else.

The brave actions of Inspector Amy Scott undoubtedly saved lives and demonstrated the unwavering commitment of our emergency responders.

Disturbingly, it has come to light that Cauchi had attempted to join gun groups and made an unusual request to have his knives sharpened. Shockingly, he had also advertised himself online as a male escort.
