Tonight, the conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel has widened significantly — both geographically and economically.

The biggest development today is a U.S. submarine attack on an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Sri Lanka. The frigate IRIS Dena was sunk by a torpedo strike, killing at least eighty-seven sailors, with dozens more missing. Sri Lankan forces launched rescue operations and recovered survivors from the water.

This attack is notable for two reasons.
First, it marks one of the first wartime sinkings by an American submarine since the Second World War.
Second, it pushes the war far beyond the Middle East, into the wider Indian Ocean theatre.

Elsewhere today, Israel continued strikes on Iranian targets, while Iran launched additional missile and drone attacks across the region. The conflict now spans Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Gulf bases, and surrounding sea lanes.

Meanwhile, the energy impact is intensifying.
Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most important oil routes — has slowed dramatically, with tankers stranded and naval escorts being discussed. Oil prices have surged as traders respond to the risk of supply disruption.

Financial markets and airlines are reacting to the uncertainty, and several governments are now reviewing contingency plans in case the conflict spreads further.

Diplomatically, the situation remains tense.
Emergency discussions continue at the United Nations, but no ceasefire proposal has yet gained traction, and the legality of ongoing military actions remains widely debated.
